Winnie the Pooh is inspired by a stuffed animal toy that Milne bought for his son in the famous London department store, Harrods, and also from a bear they saw at the London Zoo! The stories are set in Hundred Acre Wood, which was inspired by the similary-named East Sussex neighborhood's Five Hundred Acre Wood in Ashdown Forest, about 30 miles outside of London, where Milne's country home was located.
