The program was created and is produced in Queensland, and its capital city Brisbane is the inspiration for the show's setting. The book's characters and story are based on the worldwide popularity of the six-year old (later seven-year-old) Blue Heeler puppy Bluey, who has an abundance of imagination and curiosity to go along with energy about the world! The young dog lives with her father, Bandit; mother, Chilli; and younger sister, Bingo, who regularly joins Bluey on adventures as the pair go after imaginative play together. Other characters featured each represent a different dog breed! All four members of the family engage in imaginative play together, occasionally involving their neighbors, including Pat, Lucky, Chucky, Chow Chow Wendy and Judo! The big themes of Bluey include focus on the family, growing up, and the culture of Australia.
